نستعرض في الكتاب علاقات دُول وشُعُوب وقوى عسكريَّة وسياسيَّة مُتعدِّدة ومُختلفة، منها بعض القوى الدّاخليَّة، مثل :قبائل البدو، وبعض الوُزراء، والقادة، وكثير من الدُّول الكُبرى والصُّغرى، مثل التَّتَار، والخوارزميَّة، والسَّلاجقة الرُّوم، والأتابكة، والأراتقة، وأشراف الحجاز، والإسماعيليَّة، والمماليك، والمُوحِّدين، والإمبراطُوريَّة البيزنطيَّة، وأرمينيا، وجُورجيا، والنّوبة، ومملكة القُدْس الفرنجيَّة، وإماراتها في أنطاكية، وطرابلس، والدّولة البابويَّة، والجُمهُوريَّات الإيطاليَّة، والإمبراطُوريَّة الجرمانيَّة، وفرنسا، والنّمسا، وإنكلترا، وهنغاريا، والفلمنك.
بعد كُلِّ ذلك؛ نجد أنفسنا ـ وجهاً لوجه ـ أمام الواقع السِّياسي، والعمل الدّبلُوماسي لدُول تعيش في عصر لم يعرف إلا الحديد، والنار، لحلِّ مُشكلاته، أو تحقيق أطماعه. فكانت الحُلُول العسكريَّة هي كُلُّ ما يخطر على البال، مع أنَّه لم نعدم ـ حتَّى في ذلك العصر ـ مَنْ يمدُّ يده عبر حُدُود الأديان والأوطان؛ ليطلب العيش بسلام.
