لم تعد العملية التعليمية تعتمد فقط على خبرات المعلم ومهاراته الخاصة التي تتراكم لديه بفعل الزمن والاحتكاك بالآخرين بل تعدت ذلك فأصبحت عملية تراعي جملة من الأسس العلمية الحديثة التي لا سبيل إلى إهمالها أو التغاضي عنها، والتدريس الصفي أصبح في يومنا هذا يتطلب تحديثاً يتلاءم ومقتضيات العصر وثقافته. ومن بني الوسائل والنماذج العصرية الحديثة انتقى المؤلف تسعة نماذج رئيسية تستند إلى أصول مستمدة من علم النفس، تشكل في مجملها نماذج للتدريس الصفي. روعي في اختياراها أن تكون مناسبة لتدريس الكثير من المواد.
ولا يعني هذا أن على المعلم أن يلتزم في عمله نموذجاً واحد بل هو معين بمختلف نماذج التدريس بهدف مساعدة المتعلم للوصول إلى فهم شامل لذلك، ومن هذه النماذج ما يتدرج وفقه المحتوى التعليمي وأفكاره، استخدام وجهات نظر، وملخصات وأمثلة وممارسات إثارة دافعية الطلاب والمعلم في كل هذا يعمل كوسيط تربوي إذ يقوم بدور المسهل للظروف البيئية حتى يتمكن المتعلم من الوصول إلى حالة التكامل الشخصي والفاعلية وتحقيق الذات. كما أن المتعلم لا يقتصر دوره على الاستقبال فقط وإنما يتعدى ذلك إلى الاندماج والتكامل، وباكتشاف المعرفة المضمنة في الخبرة التي تعرض أمامه. ومن ثم يعمل على ربط المعلومات الجديدة بالمعلومات السابقة التي تعملها.
