"استمرت شهرزاد.. الفتاة الذكية الأديبة الفاتنة، تحدث شهريار.. عدو النساء.. ألف ليلة وليلة.. حتى نفد ما لديها من قصص وأمثال وحكايات.. وتعبت.. وملت!!، تدفع شهرزاد المرآة إلى وصيفتها التي كانت تمشط لها شعرها الأسود الطويل المسدول وتلتفت إليها. شهرزاد: لم تعد لدي ما أحدث به الملك. ترفع رأسها إلى وصيفتها كأنها تستنجد بها وتضيف متسائلة، فماذا ترين؟، تبتسم الوصيفة وعي تتناول المرآة من سيدتها، زمردة: يكفي الملك ما سمعه منك يا مولاتي.. فماذا يريد أكثر مما سمع؟!! شهرزاد: أنسيت يا زمردة؟.. ألم تعلمي أنه كان يقتل كل امرأة يتزوجها؟!!، تشير زمردة بيدها، وهي تضع المرآة ذات الإطار الذهبي في مكانها. زمردة: أنه لن يفعل بعد الآن. شهرزاد: لماذا؟ تشير زمردة بالمشط الذي كانت تحمله بيدها اليمنى. زمردة: لأن آحاديثك الحلوة، وقصصك الجميلة، وابتسامتك العذبة، وطريقتك في الحديث.. شهرزاد: طريقتي..؟ زمردة: أنت يا سيدتي.. تتكلمين بطريقة الحكماء.. وخيال الشعراء.. وطرافة الأدباء.. و.. لقد لعبت أناملك الرقيقة بأوتار قلبه.. حتى أصبح كل ذلك من نفسه لنفسه.. فلا يستطيع أن يتخلى عن نفسه بنفسه. "تبتسم شهرزاد وتشير بإصبعها". شهرزاد: أنت شاعرة يا زمردة.. زمردة: منك تعلمت.. وعليك تتلمذت.. فأنا قيس منك يا مولاتي.. أنا نغمة من لحنك الجميل.. أنا.. تقهقه شهرزاد طرباً، شهرزاد: أخبريني يا زمردة. زمردة: مولاتي الحبيبة. شهرزاد: كيف توصلت إلى الرأي الذي ذكرت؟ زمردة: أتذكرين يا مولاتي.. يوم أصابتك الحمى، أبعدها الله عنك وكفاك شرها؟ شهرزاد: قبل شهرين.. زمردة: وثلاثة أيام. شهرزاد: أذكر ذلك.. زمردة: لقد رأيت يا مولاتي.. شهرزاد: ماذا رأيت؟ زمردة: عندما كنت تتألمين.. كان مولاي الملك يتصبب عرقاً.. كانت آلامك تنتقل إلى قلبه الحزين فتعصره.. كانت آهاتك آهاته.ز لم يستطع أن ينام الليل يا مولاتي.. لقد تحول الذئب إلى حمل.. عفواً مولاتي.. لقد تحول الملك الجبار.. إلى قلب رحيم رقيق رقيق.. شهرزاد: أأنت رأيت ذلك؟!".
