أحببت الصومال وأحببت أهله الطيبين وتمنيت أن تتحقق أحلامهم فى توحيد البلد وتحقيق التنمية والسيادة على أرضه.. تابعت مسيرته السياسية وتابعت شخوصه التى عرفتها، صدمت من سلوك بعضها، والتمست العذر للبعض الآخر، تعاطفت مع حروبه، وظلمت رئيسه سياد برى، فلم أكن وقتذاك أدرك حجم الضغوط الواقعة عليه، أخطأ برى، ولكن أخطاءه لم تكن تؤدى بالبلاد إلى هذا الضياع الذى عليه الآن، فالتدخلات الأجنبية، والحروب التى خاضها فرضت عليه، لم يشهدها بلد أفريقى حديث.
والشعب الصومالى شعب مضياف يختلف عن جيرانه فى الخلق والشكل، هو أقرب إلى الملامح والصفات العربية منها إلى الزنجية، كريم متسامح قليل الغضب ينصت للحديث ويتفهمه، ولكنه صلب عنيد لا يغريه مال، يذكر له أن الأمم المتحدة عندما رصدت مبلغ 50 ألف دولار لمن يرشد عن الزعيم الوطنى "فرح عيديد" الذى أطاح بسياد برى وأذل القوات الأمريكية عندما تدخلت فى بلده، رصدت هذا المبلغ لمن يرشد أو يقبض عليه حيا أو ميتاً، ورغم ذلك، لا جبروت القوات المسلحة الأمريكية ولا إغراء المال الوفير جعل صوماليا واحدا يرشد عن مكان عيديد. بل مع الحصار الذى كان مفروضا عليه فقد كان الصحفيون يجدونه بسهوله ويجرون معه الأحاديث، وكانت خطبه وأقواله تتناقل فى الشوارع وبين الجماهير، وعجزت مخابرات الولايات المتحدة والأمم المتحدة عن ملاحقته بفضل حماية شعبه له.
وطوال إعدادى لهذه الدراسة السريعة المختصرة عن الصومال كان يلح على المثل الأفريقى الذى يقول: "عندما تتصارع الفيلة فإن الشعب هو الذى يئن"، وأفيال العالم تتصارع على أرض الصومال، كان الله فى عون شعبه.
