عبد الرحمن بن الكمال أبي بكر بن محمد سابق الدين خن الخضيري الأسيوطي المشهور باسم جلال الدين السيوطي من كبار علماء المسلمين. ولد السيوطي مساء يوم الأحد غرة شهر رجب من سنة 849هـ في القاهرة، رحل أبوه من اسيوط لدراسة العلم واسمه عبد الرحمن بن أبي بكر بن محمد الخضيري الأسيوطي، وكان سليل أسرة أشتهرت بالعلم والتدين، وتوفي والد السيوطي ولابنه من العمر ست سنوات، فنشأ الطفل يتيمًا، وأتج Jalaluddin Al-Suyuti
عبد الرحمن بن الكمال أبي بكر بن محمد سابق الدين خن الخضيري الأسيوطي المشهور باسم جلال الدين السيوطي من كبار علماء المسلمين. ولد السيوطي مساء يوم الأحد غرة شهر رجب من سنة 849هـ في القاهرة، رحل أبوه من اسيوط لدراسة العلم واسمه عبد الرحمن بن أبي بكر بن محمد الخضيري الأسيوطي، وكان سليل أسرة أشتهرت بالعلم والتدين، وتوفي والد السيوطي ولابنه من العمر ست سنوات، فنشأ الطفل يتيمًا، وأتجه إلى حفظ القرآن، فأتم حفظه وهو دون الثامنة، ثم حفظ بعض الكتب في تلك السن المبكرة مثل العمدة، ومنهاج الفقه والأصول، وألفية ابن مالك، فاتسعت مداركه وزادت معارفه.
كان السيوطي محل العناية والرعاية من عدد من العلماء من رفاق أبيه، وتولى بعضهم أمر الوصاية عليه، ومنهم الكمال بن الهمام الحنفي أحد كبار فقهاء عصره، وتأثر به الفتى تأثرًا كبيرًا خاصة في ابتعاده عن السلاطين وأرباب الدولة. وقام برحلات علمية عديدة شملت بلاد الحجاز والشام واليمن والهند والمغرب الإسلامي. ثم دَّرس الحديث بالمدرسة الشيخونية. ثم تجرد للعبادة والتأمل.
عاش السيوطي في عصر كثر فيه العلماء الأعلام الذين نبغوا في علوم الدين على تعدد ميادينها، وتوفروا على علوم اللغة بمختلف فروعها، وأسهموا في ميدان الإبداع الأدبي، فتأثر السيوطي بهذه النخبة الممتازة من كبار العلماء، فابتدأ في طلب العلم سنة 1459م، ودرس الفقه والنحو والفرائض، ولم يمض عامان حتى أجيز بتدريس اللغة العربية، كان منهج السيوطي في الجلوس إلى المشايخ هو أنه يختار شيخًا واحدًا يجلس إليه، فإذا ما توفي انتقل إلى غيره، وكان عمدة شيوخه "محيي الدين الكافيجي" الذي لازمه الـسيوطي أربعة عشر عامًا كاملة وأخذ منه أغلب علمه، وأطلق عليه لقب "أستاذ الوجود"، ومن شيوخه "شرف الدين المناوي" وأخذ عنه القرآن والفقه، و"تقي الدين الشبلي" وأخذ عنه الحديث أربع سنين فلما مات لزم "الكافيجي" أربعة عشر عامًا وأخذ عنه التفسير والأصول والعربية والمعاني، حيث أخذ علم الحديث فقط عن (150) شيخًا من النابهين في هذا العلم. ولم يقتصر تلقي السيوطي على الشيوخ من العلماء الرجال، بل كان له شيوخ من النساء.
توفي الإمام السيوطي في منزله بروضة المقياس على النيل في القاهرة في 19 جمادى الأولى 911 هـ، الموافق 20 أكتوبر 1505 م، ودفن بجواره والده في اسيوط وله ضريح ومسجد كبير باسيوط. وفي الصفحة 90 من الجزء الثاني من حفي هذه النسخة.

Imam Jalal-al-Din al-Suyuti (849-911 AH / 1445-1505 AD) was born, lived, and was buried in Cairo. The ascription 'al-Suyuti' is a reference to Asyut, a town in Upper Egypt from which his family hailed. From his early years, al-Suyuti devoted his life to learning, reading, writing, and teaching - holding notable positions in the city of Cairo at a time when it was the center of Islamic learning par excellence. He was an outstanding scholar, second to none in the field of Qur'anic Sciences ('Ulum Al-Qur'an) in which he produced many well-known works. However, being the all-round scholar that he was, his contributions covered almost all the fields of Arabic, the Qur'an, the Traditions (hadith), and history. His works were of such superb quality that they earned him the respect of his generation and the generations that followed, up to the present day. Most important of these, in the field of Qur'anic Sciences, was his Al-Itqan. Al-Itqan is perhaps the most outstanding work of its kind in the field of Qur'anic Sciences. Exhaustive in its sources and its subjects, thoughtfully and lucidly written, the work is also well arranged. Readers will be taken by the depth, breadth, scope, and mastery of the author while noting how much Muslim scholars have devoted to the study of the Qur'an and how varied and diverse were the fields in which those studies were made. The work found its way to many circles both near and far in the Islamic world. The translation presented here is of a publication of four volumes published in 1387 AH (1967 AD).
