هل يمكن تأسيس فلسفة الجمال كعلم، وبالتالي يحق لنا وصف هذا الفرع من فروع البحث الفلسفي بصفة العلمية؟. إن ضخامة هذه القضية ترجع إلى أن الجدل حولها يدور على مستويات متنوعة، ويسير في اتجاهات متشعبة: فأحيانًا يدور الجدل حول هذه القضية على مستوي شديد العمومية يتعلق بفلسفة العلم أو تحديد مفهوم العلم وحدوده، وبالتالي يتطرق إلى مناقشة إمكانية قيام تأسيس الفلسفة ذاتها كعلم.
ولكن الجد هل يمكن تأسيس فلسفة الجمال كعلم، وبالتالي يحق لنا وصف هذا الفرع من فروع البحث الفلسفي بصفة العلمية؟. إن ضخامة هذه القضية ترجع إلى أن الجدل حولها يدور على مستويات متنوعة، ويسير في اتجاهات متشعبة: فأحيانًا يدور الجدل حول هذه القضية على مستوي شديد العمومية يتعلق بفلسفة العلم أو تحديد مفهوم العلم وحدوده، وبالتالي يتطرق إلى مناقشة إمكانية قيام تأسيس الفلسفة ذاتها كعلم.
ولكن الجدل حول هذه القضية غالبًا ما يدور على مستوى أخص يتعلق بفلسفة الجمال ذاتها، وهو مستوى البحث في القيم الفنية والجمالية من حيث نسبيتها أو عموميتها.. من حيث ذاتيتها أو موضوعيتها، وبالتالي من حيث مدى إمكان دراستها دراسة علمية موضوعية.
هنا ينبغي أن نلاحظ أنه ليس هنام تعارض بالضرورة بين اتخاذ نزعة نسبية في تفسير القيم، واتخاذ موقف موضوعي إزاء دراستها. فضلًا عن أن هناك مواقف تتبنى-في الوقت ذاته- اتجاهًاموضوعيًا وصفيًا، فهذا هو السبيل الوحيد عند أصحاب هذه المواقف لتأسيس الدراسات الجمالية كعلم مشروع، ويرتبط بهذا المستوى البحثي للجدل المثال حول قضية «علمية علم الجمال» مستوى آخر يطرح الجدل حول هذه القضية في إطار مشكلة المعنى.
هذه دراسة نقدية لأبرز هذه الاتجاهات الناقدة لمشروعية علم الجمال الفلسفي؛ أي أن هذه الدراسة ستكون نقدًا للنقد!
