يطرح الكتاب مصطلحاً وإستراتيجيّة في ميداني الأدب والنقد، أمّا المصطلح فهو: التشكيل البصريّ، وأما الإستراتيجيّة فهي: المحاقلة بوصفها خطة منهجيّةً متكاملةً لدراسة الظواهر الأدبيّة تفضي إلى نتائج علميّة مستقاةٍ من بنيات الظواهر والمتون المدروسة، ومؤكّدةٍ بمستنداتٍ نصيّةٍ من جوهر الفنّ الشعريّ؛ ومن خلال المحاقلة يرسي المؤلّف مفهوماً علمياً لمصطلح التشكيل البصريّ، بحيث تكون المحاقلة وصفاً إجرائيّاً دقيقاً لما يطلق عليه أحياناً: الدراسات البينيّة، فالنسبة إلى الظروف المكانيّ (بين) صفةٌ عامّة.
أمّا المحاقلة - على وزن (مفاعلة) - فصفةٌ إجرائيّة منهجيّة تدلّ دلالةٌ واضحةً على تداخل حقلين معرفيّين مستقلّين وتلاقحهما وتمخّضهما عن معرفةٍ جديدة، مثل التداخل والتلاقح بين ظاهرة التشكيل البصريّ في الشعر وجملةٍ من الفنون والعلوم كالرسم الهندسيّ، والتشكيليّ، والحروفيّ، والطباعة، وعتبات النصّ، وإخراج الصفحة، والسطر الشعريّ، وعلامات الترقيم، واللقطة السينمائيّة، والمونتاج، والسيناريو.
وقد أسفرت إستراتيجيّة المحاقلة، في هذا الكتاب، عن وضع جهاز إصطلاحيّ لدراسة تنوّعات الظاهرة، وتعريفاتٍ إجرائيّةٍ لكل مصطلّح؛ وجاءت المصطلحات مسترفدةً من خارج النظريّة والممارسة النقديّة إمّا من حقولٍ علميّةٍ وفنيّةٍ متعدّدة، أو من وصف المؤلّف، مّما يعدّ إثراءً للنظريّة النقديّة.
