ويعتمد الكاتب على الوثائق العسكرية البريطانية، وتقارير قادة القوات والشرطة البريطانية إلى وزارتي الحربية والمستعمرات، بالإضافة إلى العديد من الوثائق المنشورة وغير المنشورة. وهو يرسم صورة ما جرى على مسرح العمليات، ويتناول التن ثورة 1936 في فلسطين: دراسة عسكرية

ويدرس الكاتب أيضا طبيعة حرب العصابات ويفصل بعض أهم العمليات التي خاضها الثوار في المدن والريف، والنتائج التي حققتها. ثم يتناول الاجراءات البريطانية المضادة ودور القوات اليهودية والعملاء المحليين. ثم ينهي دراسته بخلاصة وتقييم لما حققته الثورة وما لم تحققه، ولانعكاساتها على تطور الأحداث التي انتهت بنكبة 1948.
