يعتبر هذا الكتاب دليلاً علمياً لتصميم البرامج التعليمية لأطفال ما قبل المدرسة على أسس فلسفية واجتماعية ونفسية تتمشى والنظريات المعاصرة في هذا المجال، دون إغفال للاحتياجات الخاصة للطفل العربي في ظل قيم المجتمع وتوجهاته وتطلعاته لغد أفضل لأبنائه.
يشتمل الكتاب على إثنى عشر فصلاً في ثلاث أبواب: يتناول الباب الأول الأسس التي يضعها مصمم البرنامج في اعتباره في كل خطوة من خطوات التخطيط، بالإضافة إلي النظريات الخاصة بالنمو والتعلم. أما الباب الثاني فيستتبع تطور فكرة تصميم برامج لأطفال ما قبل المدرسة وأنواعها، ثم يعرض لبعض النماذج والتجارب لتصميم برامج تعليمية لهذه الفئة من العالمين الغربي والعربي.
ويترجم الباب الثالث ما تقدم فيأخذ القراء، وفي مقدماتهم معلمات الروضة، خطوة خطوة على طريق بناء البرنامج التعليمي، بدءاً من تحديد الغايات والأهداف العامة والموضوعات الرئيسية، واختيار المحتوى والأنشطة التعليمية والأستراتيجيات والوسائل المناسبة وانتهاء بطرق تقويم البرنامج والمتعلم.
وتلحق المؤلفة بالكتاب ثلاثة ملاحق: ملحق (1) عبارة عن جدول لتقويم نمو مهارات طفل الروضة، ملحق (2) يعرض في الممارسات المناسبة وغير المناسبة في برامج تربية أطفال الرابعة والخامسة، أما الملحق (3) فيقدم نموذجاً لبرنامج تربوي مصغر حول خبرة "روضتي" من تصميم المؤلفة.
