يقول سركيس نعوم بأن كتابه "ميشال عون، حلم أم وهم" ليس القصد منه الحكم على "الجنرال" أو أخصامه في الداخل وفي مقدمتهم "القوات اللبنانية" والنواب، وفي الخارج وأبرزهم على الإطلاق سوريا، وإنما القصد هو اطلاع الناس على ما تيسر له تجميعه من معلومات ومعطيات عن "عهد عون" وعن الأحداث الجسام التي تخللته وفي مقدمتها "حرب التحرير" "وحرب الإلغاء"، وعن ظروف ما قبل هذا العهد. وذلك كي يعتبروا وكي يَحُولوا في المستقبل إذا تمكنوا دون تكرار ما حصل، ذلك، أن آثار ما حصل على لبنان وفيه كانت سلبية جداً. ولعلّ ما يعيشه لبنان اليوم من مآسي على رغم توقف الحرب العسكرية أبرز هذه الآثار. ويضيف سركيس نعوم بأن هذا الكتاب ليس تأريخاً، وإنما هو محاولة متواضعة للإسهام في إعادة بناء الوطن من خلال الاعتبار من الماضي.
