يعيد هذا النص الاعتبار من جديد لمونتسكيو لا من حيث كونه واحداً من أهم المفكرين و المنظرين الذين مهدوا بفكرهم للثورة الفرنسية (وهو التفسير الشائع لمونتسكيو) وإنما من حيث هو المفكر الذي أحدث ثورة فى منهجية بصياغته و تطويره لجملة من المبادئ النظرية تمحورت حول فكرة انشاء فيزيقا اجتماعية تمتلك منهجاً مماثلاً لمناهج العلوم الطبيعية بحيث يسمح لها هذا المنهج بتفسير الاجتماع الانسا يعيد هذا النص الاعتبار من جديد لمونتسكيو لا من حيث كونه واحداً من أهم المفكرين و المنظرين الذين مهدوا بفكرهم للثورة الفرنسية (وهو التفسير الشائع لمونتسكيو) وإنما من حيث هو المفكر الذي أحدث ثورة فى منهجية بصياغته و تطويره لجملة من المبادئ النظرية تمحورت حول فكرة انشاء فيزيقا اجتماعية تمتلك منهجاً مماثلاً لمناهج العلوم الطبيعية بحيث يسمح لها هذا المنهج بتفسير الاجتماع الانسانى وآلياته تفسيراً علمياً .
وإذا كان ألتوسير يحدد هنا موقع مونتسكيو فى تاريخ الفكر الأوربى كاستمرار لديكارت وهوبز واسبينوزا إلا أنه يوضح أيضاً فى نفس الوقت القطيعة المعرفية و المنهجية التى قام بها مونتسكيو مع أسلافه محرراً بذلك السياسة والتاريخ، أو بالأحرى واضعاً السياسة والتاريخ كعلمين بعيداً عن التصورات الأخلاقية والميتافيزيقية .
غير أن ألتوسير يكشف لنا أيضاً عن السياسى فى شخص مونتسكيو، أى عن الموقع الذى وقف فيه خضم الصراعات السياسية فى عصره،كما يتوقف ملياً عند فهم مونتسكيو لأنواع الحكم وأشكاله وخصوصاً الحكم الاستبدادى -أو "نظام اللحظة" على حد تعبير مونتسكيو - لا من حيث هو شكل يعبر عن طبيعة العلاقة بين الحاكم والمحكوم فى مجتمعات الشرق وإنما من حيث هو تهديد قائم كان يراود الحكومات الملكية فى أوروبا آنذاك، ولربما مازال هو الشبح الذى يجول بحرية فى أجواء العديد من مجتمعاتنا .
