كلود ليفي شتراوس (بالفرنسية: Claude Lévi-Strauss)؛ (28 نوفمبر 1908 - 30 أكتوبر 2009)، عالم اجتماع فرنسي. بدأ ليفي شتراوس تكوينه بدراسة الفلسفة غير أن هذه النظريات المجردة الاعتباطية البعيدة عن الواقع الاجتماعي ما لبثت أن خيبت آماله, فسافر إلى البرازيل حيث درّس علم الاجتماع واكتشف أعمال علماء الإنسان الأميركيين (غير المعروفة في أوروبا آنذاك) مثل بواس وكروبر ولووي . وبعد عودته إلى فرنسا سنة 1948 قدّم أطروحتة المتعلقة بالمشاكل النظرية للقرابة . انتخب أستاذًا في كوليج دو فرانس سنة 1959 وشغل كرسي الأنثروبولوجيا الاجتماعية الذي كان ل مارسيل موس من قبله. فكان لأعمال ليفي شتراوس وعلمه أكبر الأثر في مجال علم الإنسان والتحقيق الإثنولوجي الميداني.

لقد أراد شتراوس أن يبطل التفسير السببي للأحداث التاريخية الذي كان مهيمناً على الدراسات الأنثروبولوجية ردحاً من الزمن، وذلك باستبدال هذا المفهوم بمفهوم آخر هو مفهوم النسق أو مفهوم النظام غير أن هذا النظام لا يكمن بشكل مجسم في الواقع إنما هو نموذج منطقي يمكننا بواسطة استخدامه الوصول إلى الكشف عن ما وراء المعطيات المباشرة والنفاذ إلى ما وراء المعطيات المحسوسة والمجسمة، أي بعب لقد أراد شتراوس أن يبطل التفسير السببي للأحداث التاريخية الذي كان مهيمناً على الدراسات الأنثروبولوجية ردحاً من الزمن، وذلك باستبدال هذا المفهوم بمفهوم آخر هو مفهوم النسق أو مفهوم النظام غير أن هذا النظام لا يكمن بشكل مجسم في الواقع إنما هو نموذج منطقي يمكننا بواسطة استخدامه الوصول إلى الكشف عن ما وراء المعطيات المباشرة والنفاذ إلى ما وراء المعطيات المحسوسة والمجسمة، أي بعبارة أخرى أن نصل إلى ذلك الشكل المجرد بوساطة البحث عن البنية اللاشعورية التي تحكم الوقائع، والذي لا يمكن الكشف عنه إلا بوساطة هذا النموذج المجرد. إذن تستعير البنيوية الأنثربولوجية من البنيويات اللسانية بحثها عن البنية اللاشعورية للغة، وتحاول جاهدة إهمال البنية الشعورية وإزاحتها، وترسم لنفسها منهجاً يقف بالتقابل التام مع المناهج الوظيفية والسوسيولوجية الأخرى، وذلك باستحداثها لجهاز مفاهيمي علمي متطور، وممنهج خارج التفسير الذاتي والنفسي والتأويلي للمفسر
