ويقدم كتاب الدكتور عبد الوهاب قراءة نقدية في مذكرات الخزرجي، وبعبارة أخرى، فإن عسكريًا عراقيًا خاض الحرب ضد إيران يقدم قراءة مذكرات عسكري عراقي خاض بدوره هذه الحرب، وكل منهما في موقع مختلف. وتكمن أهمية هذا الكتاب الذي لا تمكن قراءته وحده من دون مذكرات الفريق الأول الخزرجي في أن ما كُتب عن الحرب العراقية – الإيرانية قليل جدًا ولا يتناسب مع أهميتها العسكرية والإستراتيجية ومع المتغيرات الكبيرة التي خلّفتها في المنطقة العربية. وهذا الكتاب يضيف الكثير من التحليلات الجدية والمعلومات الجديدة، ولا سيما في حقل العسكريتاريا العربية ذات التجربة الطويلة في الميدان القتالي.
