كما يحصل في كلّ سفرة، فقد تأخّر فيصل فأخذ الركّاب يتململون مستائين مبدين دهشتهم لكون السائق لا يشرع في التحرّك بسيّارته برغم أنّ قطرات مطر أخذت ترقّط الأرض ببللها منذرة بذلك إيّاهم بما ستجابههم من مخاطر في صحراء مترامية الأطراف ستتحوّل، حال هطول المطر، إلى متاهة من الأوحال لا سبيل لهم إلى الخروج منها إلا بمعجزة.
وكان غضب نادرٌ يتصاعد بمرور الوقت، فلم يجد وسيلة ينفّس بها عن ذلك إلاّ بالحوَمان حول السيّارة متفقّداً العجلات، ملقياً نظرةً متفحّصة على المحرّك من دون أن ينسى أن يهيّء في سرّه أقسى الكلمات الّتي سيجابه بها صديقه لحظة عودته؛ وحينما ظهر فيصل أخيراً تحول غضب نادر إلى دهشة، ذلك لأنه رأى في صحبته شابّةً لا رجلاً مقيّداً إلى زنده بالأصفاد، فتاة جميلة في مقتبل العمر، وكانت ترفل في ملابس محتشمة يغلب عليها لون داكن وقد لفّت حول أسها شالاً!...
وبقي نادر، وقد عقدت المفاأة لسانه، يراقب فيصل وهو يجلس الفتاة في صفّ المقاعد الّذي يلي مقعد السائق، حتّى إذا ما انتهى من مهمّته توجّه نحو نادر ليقول له بصوت خفيض وقد انفرد به على مبعدةٍ من ركاب السيّارة: - تصوّر!!... يبدو أنّ النفي لم يعد وفقاً على الرجال، بل شمل النساء أيضاً!...
واستطرد في كلامه، فذكر أن اسمها ملاك عيسى، وهي من أسرة أرمنيّة لها أكثر من معتقل ومنفيّ، فتساءل نادر متهكماً: - وأين يسكّنونها وبيوت المنفيّين موقوفة على الرجال فقط؟...
