رينيه الحايك هي كاتبة وروائية لبنانية. ولدت رينيه بمدينة جونيه ودرست الفلسفة بالجامعة اللبنانية ببيروت. وقد نشرت العديد من الكتب التي تشتمل على مجموعات قصصية قصيرة وروايات. وقد تمت ترجمة روايتها القصيرة "مكالمة الهاتف" وتجميعها في مجموعة قصصية قصيرة عن طريق كاتبات نساء لبنانيين. كما تم ترشحيح اثنين من أحدث رواياتها بعنوان "صلاة من أجل العائلة" و"حياة قصيرة" إلى الجائزة العالمية للرواية العربية، وذلك خلال عام 2009 و2011 على التوالي.

أربع صديقات في بيروت يصارعن حياتهن المعقدة.
كل على طريقتها تغالب الغرق والخضوع.. من أجل خلاصها.
لكن في بحر متعاظم ومجتمعات بلا رحمة، هل النجاة ممكنة؟
تفكّر ميرا بعبثية هذه الأشياء. ولا تعلم لماذا تغضب من نفسها وتلومها على كل تفاهات العالم حولها.
نسيت نفسها، منذ فترة عليها أن تقصد الحلاق لتقصّ شعرها ولتقليم أظافرها لكنها لا تجد القوة لتحمل هكذا أمر. لا قوة لديها لتكون في أمكن أربع صديقات في بيروت يصارعن حياتهن المعقدة.

في عملها مشتتة على الدوام. تنسى المعاملات المستعجلة التي عليها إنهاؤها أو تقديمها في الدوائر الرسمية. لولا دقتها التي ميّزتها في السنوات الماضية لكان مديرها فقد صبره. لكنه بدلًا من ذلك يظل يسألها إن كانت مريضة أم بها شيء ما. لا تعرف أن تجيب. تكتفي بالاعتذار متحججة بالتعب أو بالصداع. هي تعلم أنه لولا شكوى مسؤولتها المباشرة عنها لم انتبه. كيف يفعل وهو لا يأتي إلا ظهرًا.
كانت تقود بحذر، مطر خفيف وهواء لطيف يدخل من الشباك. تحب المطرة الأولى، ورغم أن لا شيء فيها الآن من ذكريات الماضي، لا الرائحة ولا النداوة. لا البحر ولا السماء نفسيهما.
