رشدي راشد (1936- )رياضي مصري وفيلسوف ومؤرخ يعيش في فرنسا منذ 1956 ويعمل أستاذًا بجامعة دوني دويدرو وعدد من جامعات العالم.
حقق رشدي راشد كتب علماء العرب الرياضيين وترجم المخطوطات العربية إلى الفرنسية وشرحها تاريخيًا وفلسفيًا ورياضيًا وعلق عليها . كما أعاد إحياء تراث ابن الهيثم والخوارزمي والكِندي وعمر الخيام والسموأل وقدم عنهم حقائق تاريخية لم تكن معروفة من قبل.

لقد صمم هذا الكتاب وحقق لكي يكون لبنة في صرح كتابة تاريخ العلم العربي بشكل موثق توثيقاً كاملاً. إنه تركيب أول لم ينفذ من قبل على هذا الشكل. وقد أضحى هذا التركيب ممكناً نتيجة الأبحاث التي ما زالت تتراكم منذ القرن المنصرم، والتي نشطت بدءاً من خمسينيات القرن الحالي. وتمّت الإفادة فيه من إسهامات ذوي الاختصاص في كل من الفصول الثلاثين التي تؤرخ لأصناف العلوم العربية وتوثق لها با لقد صمم هذا الكتاب وحقق لكي يكون لبنة في صرح كتابة تاريخ العلم العربي بشكل موثق توثيقاً كاملاً. إنه تركيب أول لم ينفذ من قبل على هذا الشكل. وقد أضحى هذا التركيب ممكناً نتيجة الأبحاث التي ما زالت تتراكم منذ القرن المنصرم، والتي نشطت بدءاً من خمسينيات القرن الحالي. وتمّت الإفادة فيه من إسهامات ذوي الاختصاص في كل من الفصول الثلاثين التي تؤرخ لأصناف العلوم العربية وتوثق لها بالصور والجداول. ويشكل المساهمون فيه فريقاً دولياً من الاختصاصيين من أوروبا وأمريكا والشرق الأوسط وروسيا بهدف إنجاز الكتاب على نحو مرجعي حق يغطي مجالات مختلفة كالفلك والرياضيات والبصريات والطب والموسيقى والملاحة والمؤسسات العلمية. فالعلم العربي يشكل استمراراً لتقدم "الأنوار" في فترة هيمنت فيها "الخرافات والظلمات"،كما أن دراسته تعتبر ضرورة لا لرسم اللوحة التاريخية الإجمالية لتطور العلوم فحسب، بل لتثبيت وقائع تاريخ كل من الفروع العلمية أيضاً. ولهذا، فإن القارئ سيجد نفسه أمام كتاب في تاريخ العلم على امتداد حوالى سبعة من القرون.
وتشتمل "موسوعة تاريخ العلوم العربية" على ثلاثة أجزاء:
الجزء الأول: علم الفلك النظري والتطبيقي.
والجزء الثاني: الرياضيات والعلوم الفيزيائية.
والجزء الثالث: التقانة - الكيمياء - علوم الحياة.
