موضوع هذا الكتاب هو تفاصيل العلاقة الروحية والفكرية الخاصة التي نشأت بين الشاعر الصوفي الكبير جلال الدين الرومي (604-672 هـ) و مرشده شمس التبريزي (582-645 هـ تقريبا ). فقد كان جلال الدين الرومي فقيها حنفيا ذا شأن في مدينة قونية التركية, التي كانت في عصر الرجلين عاصمة سلاجقة الروم. و كان يدرس العلوم الاسلامية الاساسية في عصره, علوم القران و الحديث والمباحث المتصلة بهما, و ك موضوع هذا الكتاب هو تفاصيل العلاقة الروحية والفكرية الخاصة التي نشأت بين الشاعر الصوفي الكبير جلال الدين الرومي (604-672 هـ) و مرشده شمس التبريزي (582-645 هـ تقريبا ). فقد كان جلال الدين الرومي فقيها حنفيا ذا شأن في مدينة قونية التركية, التي كانت في عصر الرجلين عاصمة سلاجقة الروم. و كان يدرس العلوم الاسلامية الاساسية في عصره, علوم القران و الحديث والمباحث المتصلة بهما, و كان يتتلمذ عليه عدد كبير من طلاب العلم. لكنه بعد لقاءه شمسا التبريزي عاش حالا من تغير طريقة التفكير و النظر الى الوجود, فنهج نهجا مختلفا تماما عن النهج الذي ترسمه قبل هذا اللقاء. و اظهر ما جد في تفكيره و سلوكه وحياته انه تعلق بشمس التبريزي تعلقا ملك عليه اقطار نفسه, وتحول الى شاعر عارف فاق ما انتجه من الشعر ما انتجه اي شاعر اخر في العالم, ومثلما كان لقاء شمس اياه ملتفا بغلالة من الابهام, كان فراقه اياه اكثر غموضا و ابهاما.
