بونسون دو ترايل: روائي فرنسي، معروف بكتاباته في أدب المغامرات.
ولد ألكس بونسون دو ترايل عام ١٨٢٩م، بمدينة مونمارتر الفرنسية. عُرف بإنتاجه الأدبي الغزير، فقد أنتج ثلاثة وسبعين مجلدًا خلال عشرين عامًا. تنتمي أعماله الروائية المبكرة إلى الأدب القوطي، وعندما بدأ في كتابة «سلسلة روكامبول» قام بنشرها في جريدة يومية، وهي سلسلة من القصص المنتمي لأدب الغموض والمغامرة، وقد مَثلت هذه السلسلة تحوله من الأدب القوطي إلى الأدب البطولي الحداثي.
وقد توفي بونسون دو ترايل عام ١٨٧١م.

تتشكَّل حياتنا وَفْقَ معتقداتنا الدينية؛ التي تتحكم في الكثير من تفاصيل تلك الحياة، غير أن هذه المعتقدات قد تكون جائرةً أحيانًا، لاسيما إن فُرضَت علينا بغير إرادتنا. وقد تمثَّل ذلك في الهند الإنجليزية؛ حيث صيَّرت تعاليمُ الآلهة الهنودَ المتمرِّدين على المستعمر «خنَّاقين»؛ يخنقون ضحاياهم من الأوروبيين رجالًا ونساءً إرضاءً للآلهة، فيما يتطلَّب أحد معبوداتهم أطفالَ الأعداء؛ الذين يتعرَّف عليهم الخنَّاق من وشومهم المنتقلة إليهم من آبائهم وأمهاتهم. وتدور أحداث هذه الرواية حول ما تلاقيه الفتاة التي توشم بوشم الإلهة «كالي» من معاناة؛ تحتِّم عليها أن تظل عذراء طيلة حياتها، وإلا قتلتها جماعة «الخنَّاقين» هي وزوجها وذريتهما، بل وجميع من ساهم في إنفاذ الزيجة. وفي قصتنا يحاول «روكامبول» إنقاذ فتاتين من براثن هؤلاء المهووسين، وكانت عصابته التي كوَّنها قد بدأت تكبر لتتحول لخدمة البشر لا لضررهم.
