تقدم الكاتبة التركية في روايتها الثانية هذه شخصيات نسائية تعود إلى حقب تاريخية مختلفة في تركية؛ وهي تتحدث فيها عن طبيعة ثلاث نساء من ستينيات القرن الماضي إلى عام 2000؛ وتبدو أرواح هذه الشخصيات التي انتشرت وتبعثرت بفعل انقلابين عسكريين. وقد ألقت بكل ما لديها خلفها وتخلت عنها، عدا الإيمان بالحب وبقوته، ولأنهن ليس لديهن رفاق ليشاركهن تجاربهن الناقصة، فإنهن يبقين بالتالي "نساء عاشقات"، ومع أنهن يدفعن بأجسادهن إلى الماء، فإنهن يشعرن بالرضا عما أفصحن عنه. ثمة شخصيتان في الرواية تحمل كل منهن الإسم نعمت، الأولى هي نعمت غوزل، ومسألة موتها، الذي يذكر بما يسمى بــ"جرائم الشرف"، تشكل إحدى المواد الرئيسة للقصة، أما نعمت الأخرى، ابنة أخت يلدز، فتعمل صحفية، ويشكل موت نعمت غوزل الغامض أحد إهتماماتها الرئيسة في القصة، وعلى نحو مأساوي ينتهي تقصيها هذا إلى موتها هي أيضاً، وتبدأ هذه القصة "جمرة" بموتها. أما يلدز، فبعدما تعرفت إلى جثمان ابنة أختها في المشرحة، فإنها تبدأ بتذكر الأيام الخوالي وهي في طريق عودتها إلى منزلها، أما المشرحة فتقع في نفس الضاحية التي توجد فيها الجامعة التي درست فيها والتي عايشت فيها قصة حبها الأول، وبينما هي واقفة تنتظر ترام حديث وسريع، تفاجأ بأنها تجلس في حافة قديمة رثة تمر على محطات الثمانينيات. وفي كل من هذه المحطات التي تمر بها الحافلة، تتذكر يلدز مفصلاً أساس من مفاصل حياتها؛ وهذه المفاصل ليست مهمة فقط لتأريخها الشخصي، ولكنها ذات مغزى أيضاً لماضي تركية القريب وللإضطرابات السياسية الأخيرة. في نهاية المطاف، تغادر يلدز الحافة وتذهب إلى شاطئ البحر، مثقلة بهموم ذكريات الماضي وبأعباء الحياة والموت، حيث تندفع إلى المياه، التي كانت قد ابتلعت حيوات النعمتين؛ لكن النهاية تختلف هنا حيث...
