في هذه الرواية يعود شهريار من جديد, في جو فني مدهش, ليدق ناقوس الخطر, معلناً أن الرجل يتعرض للانقراض على سطح الكرة الأرضية, وموضحاً الوضع المتردي لمستقبل الرجل, وغبائه في التصرف ضد مصلحته الشخصية, وتبديد طاقاته في رعاية المرأة, الذكية في استخدامه, وفي توظيفه لخدمة أهدافها, والإنفاق عليها دون تقدير من طرفها!
بينما تفكر شهرزاد في مصير الأنثى التي تقف في طابور انتظار الزوج الذي يأتي ولا يأتي, فتظل مرهونة برسم البيع ل"صاحب النصيب". تشعر شهرزاد أن الأم مظلومة, إذ أنها تنشغل في حياتها بمهنة أمومة لا تسجل لصالحها, بقدر ما تجير لصالح أطفالها, الذين يكبرون غير منتمين إليها, بل إلى اسم عائلة الأب.
وكيف يكون قلق المرأة وهي ترى أن عصمة الزواج بيد الرجل, الذي يستطيع أن يطلقها بإشارة منه؟ وكيف تستطيع الزوجة أن توازن نفسيتها ولا تكتئب, وهي ترى زوجها متزوجاً بأربع نساء, بينما هي متربعة على ربع زوج لا يقوم ولا يقعد؟
