انتزعتُ نفسي من جدران قلعتي الصغيرة، لمست يداي الجدران والحجارة، أغلقت الأبواب جميعها، غرق البيت بالصمت الشديد، ونواح عميق أسمعه يصدر من كل الجدران التي تودعني. أغلقت الأبواب والنوافذ، ولكنني خلف تلك الأبواب والنوافذ تركت روحي وسعادتي الوحيدة التي عرفتها في هذه الحياة، خرجت جثتي من ذلك البيت تحملها قدماي المتعبتان، فروحي باقية هناك خلف تلك الجدران، وأسمع أنينها الباحث عن الجسد الراحل.
شعور بالألم كان ينتابني دائماً حين أرى اقتلاع الأشجار، ولكنني الآن أعرف ألم اقتلاع البشر من جذورهم، أن يصبح وجودهم مجرد أشلاء نضعها في طائرة ما، ونرسلها إلى أي مكان حتى ولو كان إلى الجحيم أو ربما إلى أجمل بقاع الأرض ولكن حين تقتلع الجذور هل تستطيع النفس أن تعرف المعنى الأول للسعادة؛ للأمن؛ للكرامة؟ لن تعرفها، لأن كل هذه المعاني تم اقتلاعها، لأنها وببساطة هي جذور الوجود.
وكان لابد أن أودع المكان الأخير، غرفتي الصغيرة على السطح، لابد أن أودع مدينتي التي رفضت الظلم الواقع عليها. حين وقفت خلف النافذة، لم أبك وأدركت أنني رغم كل الألم لن أغير طريقي حتى ولو عاد بي القدر إلى الوراء. أن أبقى مخلصاً لأنين هذه المدينة، ألا أغلق السمع والبصر عن الأنين والقهر..
أغلقت باب الغرفة وحملت مدينتي في صدري ورحلت.
