يمثل هذا الكتاب ثمرة جهد ممتد عكف عليه مركز البحوث والدراسات السياسية بكلية الاقتصاد والعلوم السياسية منذ بداية عام 2008؛ إذ تمثل فصول هذا الكتاب أعمال المؤتمر السنوى الثانى والعشرين الذى عقده المركز فى يومى 30 و 31 ديسمبر 2008 بعنوان «التطورات المعاصرة لدور مصر الإقليمى»، وذلك بعد تنقيحها وإدخال ما يلزمها من تعديلات أو إضافات، وقد شارك فى هذا العمل كوكبة متميزة من الباحثين فى محاولة لإلقاء الضوء على التطورات المعاصرة لدور مصر الإقليمى، سواء من الناحية النظرية التى تستأهل سبر أغوار مفهوم الدور الإقليمى وأبعاده المختلفة والعوامل الحاكمة له والدوائر المختلفة لهذا الدور، أو من الناحية التطبيقية كتناول دور مصر الإقليمى فى العالم العربى، وبصفة خاصة فى الصراع العربى ـ الإسرائيلى والعراق والخليج العربى، وكذا فى البحر المتوسط، بالإضافة إلى تناول الأدوار الأخرى التى قد تنافس الدور المصرى بشكل أو بآخر كالدور التركى والدور الإيرانى، فضلًا عن تناول البعد الاقتصادى والثقافى لدور مصر الإقليمى. وإجمالًا، فإن هذا الكتاب يؤكد على أن مفهوم الدور الإقليمى لمصر يمتد ـ بحكم موقعها الجغرافى الفريد ـ ليشمل دوائر جغرافية عديدة تشمل الدائرة العربية، الدائرة الشرق أوسطية، الدائرة الإسلامية، الدائرة الأفريقية، والدائرة الأورومتوسطية. كما يؤكد على أن أبعاد هذا الدور لا تقتصر على البعد السياسى فحسب، ولكنها تمتد لتشمل أبعادًا أخرى اقتصادية وثقافية. وبالتالى، فإن أى محاولة لتقييم دور مصر الإقليمى لا بد أن تأخذ ذلك بعين الاعتبار. ويأمل المركز أن يمثل هذا الكتاب رؤية أكاديمية عن التطورات المعاصرة لدور مصر الإقليمى.
