خالد البسام كاتب ومؤرخ بحريني، ولد في عنيزة في تاريخ 18 نوفمبر عام 1956م. صدرت له الكثير من المؤلفات في تاريخ البحرين والخليج العربي، إضافة إلى إصدارات عديدة تنوعت بين الرواية وسير الأعلام والسياسة. وتوفي عام 2015م.

هذه حكايات من الخليج. ولأنها حكايات فهي لن تدعي التاريخ ولن تضع نفسها في خانة كتب التاريخ الكلاسيكية، ليس لأنها لا تريد أن تكون كذلك، ولكن ببساطة لأنها حكايات وهي إذن حكايات تدلف إلى التاريخ بنبض جديد لا تهوى فيه قراءة الأبحاث ولا تقف في صنع المراجع ولا تأسرها كتب التواريخ العظيمة. كلها حكايات كتبت لتقول قصصاً من تاريخ منطقة الخليج العربي، ولتروي بعض أيام غابرة اجتاحتها سنوات قبلت الدنيا بكل ما فيها فجعلت الكثير من أيامها الحاضرة بلا طعم ولا شهوة. وفي هذه الحكايات تنسج خيوط الحبكة وتنثر الزمان والمكان القديم في هذه الأوراق لتقول أهم شيء أن الخليج لم يكن نفطاً! كان مثله باقي البلاد العربية أرضاً وشعوباً وهموماً وصخباً... وأيضاً حكايات. هي مجرد حكايات كتبت لتروي لجميع العرب بعضاً من نتف تاريخ المنسي الذي حاولت براميل النفط أن تجفف آباره، وتروي أياما عتيقة عن دانات اللؤلؤ وقوارب الصيد والأزقة الضيقة وضيق العيش وعذابات الناس.
