"وبكيت... بكيت... من كل جروحي بكيت. كل ما بي يرتجف... كل ما بي يشهق وينوح... لن يعود لهذا الرحم دور في حياة أخرى، لن ينجب أبداً. لن يتوهج... لن يحتو في جوفه أية بذرة أخرى... ليس له دور بعد الآن. ولن أشعر أبداً بتلك الحياة السرية الخاصة بين اثنين يجمعهما حبل سري وقلبين يدقان في ساعة واحدة. لا رفيق ولا هديل في مياهي السرية ولا يد صغيرة تنقر على أوتار روحي. أبداً لن تكون تلك العلاقة الفريدة، الخاصة والحميمة... كيانان في بدن واحد... عزف سري لا يسمعه أحد، لغة في أبجدية الدم والجسد. وحده رحمي الحزين يدرك ذلك... لم يعد له جوهر. ولذا يخلي شراكته معي، يتركني بإحساس العاطل عن عمل". فوزية شاويش السالم بهمسات الأنثى تبوح، ومن إحساسها تأتلف الكلمات عبارات، ومعاني تتداعى سطوراً متقطعة النبضات، بتقاطع أناتها وأحداثها، لتبدو وكأنها لوحة تشكيلية ذات ألوان قاتمة، توحي بنكهة مأساة مزون وردة الصحراء تلك الشخصية التي هي مبعث ولادات ثلاث (زوينة، مزون، وزيانة) تتداخل فصول حياة كل واحدة منهن حتى لا يعود الإلمام بصلة الشبه أو القرابة بين الشخصيات الثلاث هو الأساس، لأن ثمة ما يشير إلى انفصام داخل الشخصية الواحدة من ناحية، ثم إلى قرابة تحيل مزّون إلى أدوار إضافية فتصبح هنا الأم، وهناك الجدة، بعد الابنة المستوحدة والزوجة والعشيقة. وفي كل ذلك تسرد فوزية شويش السالم سيرة أثنى، أو عن وجه درامي آخر، سيرة المرأة الشرقية إنما من ضمن بعض التفاصيل المحلية الخاصة بالمجتمع الكويتي من حيث تداخل عناصر خاصة كالصحراء الشاسعة والأساطير المحصورة بمنطقة معينة وحضارتها وتقاليدها. وعبر الفضاء الروائي يلوح للقارئ طيف أنثوي يمر خفياً في صحراء قاحلة لا أثر فيها لزاوية يركن الجسد التعِبُ إليها أو يستكين.
