أيقظها حليبها الذي طفح في صدرها، قامت تبحث عن فم ناضر يرشف آخر ما تبقى من قطرات اللبا، حملت صاحب الفمّ فروّعها أنه لم يتمطّ بكل دلع الأرض وطفولة الحياة كعادته كلما حملته أثناء نومه، ألصقته بصدرها فضيّعتها الفجيعة عندها، بحثتْ عن أي شهيق أو زفير دون جدوى، صرختْ تستنجدْ بي باحثة عن جواب، ولأنّي في الحد الفاصل بين النّوم واليقظة رأيتُ في انطفاء عيون وليدي المغدور كائنات بشعة لا تشبه الحيا؛ فقد جاء جوابي صراخاً ذائباً في مياه الحزن: ـ إنه ميْت… ميْت.
