كانت جرأة غالب هلسا في إثارة موضوع الجنس والعلاقات المحرَّمة، أو المسكوت عنها بين الرجل والمرأة في حياتنا العربية، أمراً إستثنائياً في مساحته الروائية وعمق دلالته النفسية، وهو يؤلف في مجموعه نوعاً من الرؤية الأيروسية للعالم يستطيع القارئ من خلالها وضع اليد على بنية ثابتة في السرد ومولدة أساسية من شأنها تزويد جهازنا المعرفي بأداة نقدية فاعلة.
في كتابه "حكاية الصبي والصندوق... الجنس عند غالب هلسا" يقدم الدكتور ضياء خضير قراءته النقدية لأعمال هلسا الروائية والقصصية في محاولة للربط بين المكونات الشخصية للكاتب ونصّه، خصوصاً فيما اصطلح على تسميته بالرؤية الأيروسية أو (مشكلة الجنس) عند غالب هلسا، ويفعل ذلك الكاتب خضير على إعتبار أن "هذه الشخصية بوصفها دالاً على مدلول داخل النص... ولا سيما ما يتصل من هذا السلوك بموضوعة الجنس، وما ينطوي عليه من عقد ومظاهر إنزياح غريبة عن العلاقات السويّة.
فضلاً عن تلك الحقيقة العامة التي نعثر عليها في كل نصوص غالب هلسا الروائية، والتي تبقى فيها المرأة (المرأة الحرة التي تملك حق إتخاذ قرار في حياتها) دافعاً وسبباً دائماً في شعور الراوي بالحياة وبتلك البهجة الأنطولوجية التي قد لا يجد هذا الراوي لها تفسيراً غير مجرد الإبتهاج بأننا نوجد ونحيا"، كما يقول الراوي في رواية غالب (السؤال)".
هذا الكتاب دراسة نقدية مهمة تساعد على تذوق النصوص الروائية والقصصية، وفهمها والغوص في دواخل أبطالها، وخاصة أن الكاتب إستخدم منهم (علم النفس) لكي يسعفه في إضاءة حياة وإبداع غالب هلسا.
