أن قضية ( الشعر الأموى بين التقليد والتجديد ) لم تقل فيها الكلمة الأخيرة بعد ، هل كان الشعر الأموى صورة مكبرة من الشعر الجاهلى ؟ أى أنه تقليد صرف ، أم أن فيه ابتكاراً وتجديداً؟ وإلى أى مدى كان هذا التجديد ؟ . إن المعجم الشعرى – فى سائر فنون الشعر – يكاد يكون واحداً .. ألم يكن للإسلام أثر فى هؤلاء الشعراء ؟ أو ليست هناك ثقافة جديدة أتاحت للشعر الأموى أن تكون دائرته أكبر ، وفضاؤه أوسع ، وعالمة أرحب ؟ . وإذا كان المعجم الشعرى واحداً ، أو يكاد يكون واحداً ، ألا ينبغى على دارس الشعر الأموى ان يقرأه وفق ثقافة الشاعر الجديدة ، وبيئته التى اتختلفت ، وحياته الاجتماعية و السياسية التى تغيرت !! . وإذا كان الثور الوحشى عند الجاهلين له مكانة قد تكون منبعثة من معتقداتهم ، فإن الثور عند الأمويين الإسلاميين أمره مختلف ، فإلى أى مدى كان هذا الاختلاف ؟ هذه الكتاب يجيب عن تلك الأسئلة المطروحة وغيرها ، ويضع بين أيديناعلى الفرق بين الصورة هنا وهناك ، حيث يقوم هذا الكتاب على ثلاث قصائد : اثنتان للنابغة الذبيانى ، وهما الدالية والرائية – المعلقتان – ، والثالتة لذى الرمة . استهدف الكتاب إيثار النابغة وذا الرمة ، لأن موقف الأول فى قصيدته الدالية – وهى اعتذارية – سيصبغ الصورة بألوان ربما لا نجدها عند غيره ، كما أن هذه الدالية معلقة ، والرائية معلقة كذلك ، وللنابغة مكانته المعروفة فى الشعر الجاهلى وأثره فى شعراء العصر الأموي واضح .
