نقرأ في هذا الكتاب شرح "مبسط" على نظم المقصور والممدود للعلامة إبن مالك الأندلسي صاحب الألفية المعروفة. شرحه واعتنى به عمار بن خميسي ووزعه على ستة عشر باباً تبدأ بـ : ما يفتح فيقصر ويمد باختلاف المعنى، وما يفتح فيقصر ويكسر فيمد مع اختلاف المعنى، وما يكسر فيقصر ويفتح فيمد باختلاف المعنى، وما يكسر فيقصر ويمد باختلاف المعنى، وما يضم فيقصر ويفتح باختلاف المعنى، ما يفتح فيقصر ويضم مع اختلاف المعنى، وما يضم فيقصر ويمد باختلاف المعنى، وما يكسر فيقصر ويضم فيمد باختلاف المعنى، وما يضم فيقصر ويكسر فيمد باختلاف المعنى، وما يفتح فيقصر ويكسر فيمد والمعنى واحد، وما يكسر فيقصر ويفتح فيمد والمعنى واحد، وما يكسر فيقصر ويضم فيمد وعكس ذلك والمعنى واحد، وما يضم فيقصر ويفتح فيمد والمعنى واحد، وما يفتح فيقصر ويمد والمعنى واحد، وما يكسر فيقصر ويمد والمعنى واحد، وما يضم فيقصر ويمد والمعنى واحد.
وبناءً على ما تقدم نعرف أن الشرح يشتمل على جميع الحالات التي يكون عليها القصر والمدّ ومعناها في اللغة العربية، وقد نظمها الشارح في (166) بيتاً من الشعر بدأها بقوله:
بدأنا بحمد الله فهو سناءُ / وللنطق منه بهجة وبهاءُ
واختتمها بقوله:
وسلْ لي عفواً ونبل جوارهم / غداً فإلى ذا سارع السعداءُ.
