لقد شهدت الزراعة العربية المعاصرة في العقدين الآخرين أحداثاً تختلف في تأثيراتها الاقتصادية عن تلك التي مرت بالتاريخ العربي، ولا شك في أن التقدم التقني وثورة المعلومات اختصرت حقبة من تاريخ التكوينات الاقتصادية الزراعية في العالم، وتأتىّ عن هذه تنامي الاقتصادات الزراعية الرأسمالية وتعمُق تكتلاتها وتوسيع إمتداداتها في العالم الثالث بينما أدت هذه التغيرات بالدول النامية إلى تشويه في اقتصاداتها الزراعية. وكان الوطن العربي إحدى مناطق العالم التي شملها التشويه في العديد من اقتصاداتها الزراعية القطرية نتيجة تطبيق نماذج تنموية متباينة في البعض منها تضادية، في البعض الآخر من هذا الإطار يأتي الكتاب الذي يضمّ بحثاً عالج فيه المؤلف مسألة التشويه في الاقتصادات الزراعية في الدول النامية عموماً، والوطن العربي خصوصاً، وانطلاقاً من هذه الرؤية قسم المؤلف كتابه إلى قسمين، عالج في القسم الأول التكوين التاريخي للاقتصادات الزراعية العربية من خلال وضع دراسة شاملة ُتنافس الإشكالية التاريخية للزراعة العربية، والتكوين الاقتصادي للزراعة العربية في التاريخ المعاصر ابتداءً من السيطرة العثمانية وانتهاءً بعصر الانتداب في الوطن العربي الإسلامي والآسيوي. أما القسم الثاني فقد عالج فيه المؤلف اقتصادات الزراعة العربية المعاصرة من خلال دراسة بنية الاقتصاد الزراعي والسياسات الزراعية العربية، مروراً بالمبررات والإمكانات الزراعية التكاملية العربية ومستقبليات الزراعة العربية.
