ھﺬه رﺳﺎﻟﺔ ﺳﺎﻣﯿﺔ اﻟﻘﺪر، رﻓﯿﻌﺔ اﻷدب، أرﺳﻠﮫﺎ إﻣﺎم ﻋﺼﺮه ﻏﯿﺮ ﻣﺪاﻓﻊ، وﻋﻼﻣﺔ ﻣﺼﺮه ﻏﯿﺮ ﻣﻨﺎزع: أﺣﻤﺪ ﺑﻦ اﻟﺤﺴﯿﻦ اﻟﺒﯿﮫﻘﻲ، اﻹﻣﺎم اﻟﺠﻠﯿﻞ اﻟﺬي ﻗﯿﻞ ﻓﯿﻪ: "ﻣﺎ ﻣﻦ ﺷﺎﻓﻌﻲ إﻻ وﻟﻠﺸﺎﻓﻌﻲ ﻋﻠﯿﻪ ﻣﻨﺔ، إﻻ أﺣﻤﺪ اﻟﺒﯿﮫﻘﻲ، ﻓﺈن ﻟﻪ ﻋﻠﻰ اﻟﺸﺎﻓﻌﻲ ﻣﻨﺔ، ﻟﺘﺼﺎﻧﯿﻔﻪ ﻓﻲ ﻧﺼﺮة ﻣﺬھﺒﻪ وأﻗﺎوﻳﻠﻪ". أرﺳﻠﮫﺎ إﻟﻰ رﻓﯿﻘﻪ، وﻗﺮﻳﻨﻪ، إﻣﺎم اﻟﺸﺎﻓﻌﯿﺔ ﻓﻲ زﻣﺎﻧﻪ، ﻋﺒﺪ ﷲ ﺑﻦ ﻳﻮﺳﻒ ﺑﻦ ﻣﺤﻤﺪ ﺑﻦ ﺣﯿﻮﻳﺔ اﻟﺠﻮﻳﻨﻲ، اﻟﺬي ﻗﯿﻞ ﻓﯿﻪ: "ﻟﻮ ﻛﺎن اﻟﺸﯿﺦ أﺑﻮ ﻣﺤﻤﺪ ﻓﻲ ﺑﻨﻲ إﺳﺮاﺋﯿﻞ، ﻟﻨﻘﻞ إﻟﯿﻨﺎ ﺷﻤﺎﺋﻠﻪ، واﻓﺘﺨﺮوا ﺑﻪ". ﻧﻔﺬھﺎ اﻟﺒﯿﮫﻘﻲ إﻟﻰ اﻟﺠﻮﻳﻨﻲ ﻣﺴﺘﺪرﻛﺎً ﻓﯿﮫﺎ ﻋﻠﯿﻪ ﻓﻲ ﺗﺼﻨﯿﻒ ﺳﻤﺎه "اﻟﻤﺤﯿﻂ"، اﺳﺘﺪراﻛﺎً ﻓﯿﻤﺎ ﻳﺘﻌﻠﻖ ﺑﻌﻠﻢ اﻟﺤﺪﻳﺚ وﻏﯿﺮه.
