إن علم الفقه في الدين، ومعرفة الحلال والحرام؛ من أجلِّ العلوم والمعارف، بالنظر إلى ثمرته التي هي التقرب إلى الله تعالى بفعل ما أمر، وترك ما نهى عنه وزجر؛ فكان من أعظم ما يتقرب العبد به إلى ربه سبحانه وتعالى هو تحصيل هذا العلم.
ولذلك قضى أسلاف هذه الأمة أعمارهم في الإشتغال بعلم الفقه تعلُّماً وتعليماً وتأليفاً، فزخرت مكتبات العالم بتراث ضخم مما دوّنه علماء الأمة، ومع هذه الكثرة التي نراها الآن فإن ما أخرج منها يُعَدُّ غيضاً من فيض؛ فلا يزال كثير من هذه المؤلفات رهيناً فوق الأرفف لم يرَ نور التحقيق والنشر.
ومن هذه الكتب، اختار الدكتور خالد النمر دراسة كتاب "السلسلة في معرفة القولين والوجهين"، وهو كتاب في الفقه الشافعي، لمؤلفه الإمام أبي محمد عبد الله بن يوسف الجويتي، المتوفي سنة 438هـ.
وقد اشتملت خطة البحث على مقدمة وقسمين: المقدمة: ذكر فيها بيان سبب إختيار الموضوع، ومنهج التحقيق، القسم الأول: في المؤلَّف والمسائل المتعلقة به، القسم الثاني: النص المحقق "السلسلة في معرفة القولين والوجهين".
