في تجربته الشعرية الأولى "بلقيس" يسترفد الشاعر حمود المخيني من الذاكرة الشفهية القريبة إلى التداعي الحر (الإلهام) ثيماته التي تشكل الطبيعة والمكان والواقع (العماني) المتنوع جمالاً رافداً حقيقاً لنصه. ففي قصيدته الموسومة بـ [أنفاس من وطن] يقول: حب الوطن في داخلي صدر وأنفاس / تخنقني الغربة .. ولي عين ولهى / تثاوب الليل وغشي طرفه نعاس / والنوم واعد ه الجنون وخذلها! / سالت دموع الشوق في خدّ قرطاس!/ دمعة حزن ما تبكي إلا أهلها / أحتاج لك يا عمان لـ الليل نبراس / هذي الدروب المظلمة .. م احتملها! (...)". فالشاعر هنا يتناول هموم الإنسان الـ (هو / آخر) في عبوره الحي، كما يجنح إلى هموم مجتمعه المتأصلة والطارئة، في طرح عميق، ورؤية واضحة، استخدمت فيها مفردات حياتية قريبة من الواقع حيث اقتناص الصور من المشهد الحسي القريب في توحّد تام بين عالم الشاعر وعالم الناس المكونون لهذا الوطن، مع تسييس نسبي للقصيدة، وجعلها في مستوى المتلقي من حيث الطرح والفكرة، ومخاطبة الشعور الآخر، مع الإهتمام بالزخرف والبيان الجمالي.
هذا، ولا تقتصر قصائد الديوان على الجانب الوطني، بل تتعدد أغراضه الشعرية لتشمل الغزلي والوجداني والفردي الخاص وكل ذلك جاء بحسٍ فني مشغول بحرفية خاصة وامتلاك لعناصر الشعرية الجديدة.
يضم الديوان (38) قصيدة تنوعت بين الشعر النبطي (العُماني) والشعر العامودي وقصيدة النثر جاءت تحت العناوين الآتية: "بلقيس" ، "أنفاس من وطن" ، "بحور الخليل" ، "ليل" ، "رسالة عريس: الأمل ألم" ، "شروق وغروب" ، "أحلام الفقاري" ، "وصفة خلودي" ، "الأحلام" ، "مملكة بلقيس" ، "حكايا" (...) وقصائد أخرى.
