في خريف 1944، عُقد في قصر الباباوات "مؤتمر لجان التحرير"، وكان أول لقاء حاشد للمقاومة في الهواء الطلق. وبعد خمسين سنة، وفي اليوم نفسه تقريباً، التأمت أول جامعة للشبكات الوطنية للانخراط في النشاط الاقتصادي، في ذلك الصرح التاريخي. وقد أتيح لمؤلف الكتاب "كلود الفاندري" أن يكون واحداً من المنظمين والفاعلين الأساسيين في هاتين التظاهرتين.
بين هذين التاريخين تغيّر العالم كثيراً وهو بدوره عرف تبدلاً مذهلاً في أفكاره وسلوكه ووضعه، مقاوم، شيوعي، موظف كبير، مصرفيّ، مناضل مرة جديدة، هذه الوجوه المتتالية، كما حدث لكثيرين غيره، تحوّلت مع الوقت.
لكن في الاجتماعين اللذين أشرف عليهما جيلان مختلفان، كان هناك مواطنين مسؤولين مصمّمين على النضال رفعوا أصواتهم عالياً في وجه مؤسسات فقدت اعتبارها بسبب تعاونها، وبعد نصف قرن بدت عاجزة في مواجهة البطالة والطرد.
وسؤال يطرحها الفاندري: هل بالاستطاعة المقاربة بين الأشخاص ومشاريعهم في ذلك الوقت واليوم؟ وهل هناك معالم أو نقاط استدلال، وإن كانت لا تضع تصوراً متواصلاً لخط السير المتنافر، لأبناء جيله، تستطيع إعطاء معنى له؟
على هذه الصفحات يحاول كلود الفاندري الإجابة على هذه المسألة من خلال الذكريات التي انتقتها ذاكرته بدون الاستعانة بملاحظات مدوّنة، وهي لا تحمل سمة الموضوعية التاريخية، بل هي، بالأحرى، تشكل نظرة ذاتية إلى الأحداث التي شارك فيها وإلى الشخصيات التي تسنّى له اللقاء بها.
