نحن نعرف أن لينين (1870-1924) هو الذي واصل طريق ماركس وانجلز، وهو الذي أسس الحزب الشيوعي في روسيا، بل والدولة السوفييتية نفسها عندما قاد الثورة الروسية عام 1917، فنقل الماركسية من مجال الفلسفة والفكر النظري إلى مجال التطبيق العملي، عندما طبق أفكار ماركس وأقام الدولة الشيوعية، إلا أن أثره كان بارزا أيضا في الفكر النظري نفسه، حتى إنه طور النظرية الماركسية وأضاف إليها شروحات وتفسيرات، فخلق إليها نظرية جديدة يضاف إليها اسمه بحيث اصبحت تسمى "الماركسية-اللينينية"
