Book Description
عاش الطبيب علي بن رضوان في أواخر القرن العاشر الميلادي وتوفي في منتصف القرن الحادي عشر، وكان أبوه فراناً لا يملك من حطام الدنيا غير ما يكفيه وعياله أياماً معدودة، لكن ابن رضوان -الذي كان أسود اللون، أقرب إلى الدمامة منه إلى الخلق السوي، بدأ التعلم وهو في السادسة، حتى إذا بلغ العاشرة ترك مسقط رأسه الجيزة وقصد القاهرة، وهناك أجهد نفسه في طلب العلم وتحصيله والاستزادة منه حتى ذاع صيته طبيباً أميناً وعالماً متمكناً من صناعته وكان من اشتهاره أن سمع به الخليفة الفاطمي الحاكم بأمر الله فاستدعاه وقربه ثم عينه رئيساً لأطباء مصر.
وبالإضافة إلى ما ينطوي عليه هذا الكتاب من معلومات عن عصر ابن رضوان ومعاصريه من المشهورين في الطب والعلوم والأدب فإن فيه كذلك نبذة صالحة عن الحياة الاجتماعية والاقتصادية والثقافية في ذلك العصر، فضلاً عن ذكر مؤلفات صاحب السيرة ومخلفاته المخطوطة منها والمطبوع.
