يختص هذا الكتاب بتقصي دور (المسيحية العربية) ودورها في تاريخ المشرق العربي في مختلف حقباته، خاصة تلك التي انطلقت مه ظهور الإسلام، وفي هذا السياق يتساءل مؤلف الكتاب هل للمسيحية تأثيراً على دور المسيحين العرب، يختلف عن دور اشقائهم الآخرين قبل الإسلام وبعده؟ وهل امتد هذا التأثير في حياة العرب بين المجالات الاجتماعية، وخاصة القبلية والعائلية من زواج وطلاق وتعدد زوجات، إلى الاقتصاد مثل الزكاة والربا في الإسلام، وفي الثقافة شكلاً ومضموناً، وخاصة في القيم والتوجهات، أو في الحياة السياسية؟ وفي سبيل الإجابة عن هذه التساؤلات، اختار المؤلف بداية تقديم لمحة عن الخلفية والذاكرة الراهنة للمسيحين العرب، بعد ذلك استعرض في الباب الأول الإرث التاريخي المتراكم للمسيحيين العرب، بما في ذلك المؤسسة الدينية ودور المسيحية والمسيحيين في الحضارة العربية الإسلامية، وقد ختم المؤلف هذا الباب بمحاولة مسح الأوضاع الراهنة للمسيحيين العرب من الجوانب كافة. وفي الباب الثاني عد المؤلف عمله "محاولة لتخليص الاعتلالات والعيوب العربية الراهنة في المجالات السياسية والاقتصادية والثقافية والاجتماعية، ومن ثم محاولة إظهار القدرات والموارد العربية" واختم هذا الباب بسبر خصائص المسيحية العربية. ,وللكاتب وهيب عبده الشاعر رأي في خلاصة هذا الكتاب يشير إليه بقوله "أن الإسلام والمسلمين وعبر اربعة عشر قرناً لم يبخلوا على أشقائهم المسيحين إلا نادراً، كما حصل في عصور الدويلات المتتالية أو ما تسمى بعصور الانحطاط، وأيضاً في حكم المماليك، وأثناء الحروب الصليبية. لقد نجح العرب بمكوناتهم الدينية المختلفة، بما فيها المسيحية، بأن يقدموا للحضارة الإنسانية حضارة لا تقل عن حضارات العالم شيئاً...".
