ثلاثون قصة قصيرة بين جلدتي هذا الكتاب وهي جميعاً-كما يقول المؤلف-تشكل وحدة موضوع لتجربة واحدة. وقد فازت قصة "هي..امرأة عراقية" بجائزة مجلة "المسيرة" اللبنانية ضمن مسابقة القصة العربية التي جرت عام 1980، وأما سائر القصص فقد نشرت في مجلات وصحف عربية أدبية مختلفة وهي كلها تشهد للقاص بطول الباع في هذا الميدان الأدبي الواسع.
وهذا مقطع من قصته "زمن الورد":
"افترقنا.. صعب أن نلتقي، صعب أن نبتعد.. بيننا غابة من التنهيدات الطويلة. وأنت، تسحب المسافات إليك، ومن دوني تسكن في الظلمة في المكان القصي.
وأظل ألاحق أخبارك. تفاجئك رسائلي. تضرب شباب غرفتك الضيقة، مثل المطر.. وتبتسم. أنت تحب تساقط المطر. وتسكت. مرة جاءني خبر منك يقول: سأجيء.
تجيء، تجيء.. إذن هي البشرى.. حزمة من السنابل وجمع من العصافير. فتعال، تعال حاملاً معك البشري كلها.."ز
