فكيف تُفهم ظاهرة داعش، ومن هم قادتها ومقاتلوها، وما هو مصدر كل هذا العنف الوحشي الذي حكم سلوكها: الفكر الموروث أم الواقع الاجتماعي أم البنية الثقافية والاجتماعية والسياسية والاقتصادية أم سياسات الهيمنة العالمية؟ وكيف نشأ هذا التنظيم وتطوّر وما هي أبرز منطلقاته الفكرية؟ وما هي أبرز التحولات التي شهدها، وكيف استطاع استقطاب كل هذا العدد من المقاتلين من مختلف المجتمعات بما فيها الغربية؟
هذا الكتاب هو عمل بحثي شبه ميداني، يحاول تقديم أجوبة عن هذه التساؤلات وغيرها، والبحث في خلفيات هذه الظاهرة وأبعادها وتحولاتها وأدوات عملها، والتحديات التي فرضتها عربياً وعالمياً، وسبل مواجهتها على مختلف الصُّعد الفكرية والتنظيمية والسياسية والتقانية… يعتمد الكتاب منهجيات متداخلة الحقول المعرفية، التاريخية والاجتماعية والنفسية، بهدف تقديم قراءة أكثر شمولية وفهماً لظاهرة داعش والإرهاب عموماً، بعيداً من التحليلات والقراءات النمطية التي عجزت عن فهم هذه الظاهرة ومواجهتها.
