محمد بن أحمد بن أبي بكر بن فَرْح كنيته أبو عبد الله ولد بقرطبة ب(الأندلس) حيث تعلم القرآن الكريم وقواعد اللغة العربية وتوسع بدراسة الفقه والقراءات والبلاغة وعلوم القرآن وغيرها كما تعلم الشعر أيضا.
انتقل إلى مصر واستقر بمنية بني خصيب في شمال أسيوط حتى وافته المنية في 9 شوال 671 هـ، وهو يعتبر من كبار المفسرين وكان فقيهًا ومحدثًا ورعًا وزاهدًا متعبدًا.

كتاب في الفقه، يبحث في مسألة واحدة وهي ما يجوز من المسألة وما لا يجوز، وعقوبة من يسأل عن غنى وبيان فضل الإستعفاف عن المسألة والصبر عنها . وتكلم في القناعة وأبوابها والزهد وأحواله، كل ذلك على نحو أربعين باب مهم، ورغم كتابة من كان قبل الإمام القرطبي في الموضوع نفسه إلا أنه كما قال " أردت أن أجمع كتابا يزيد على معانيها ويربى على ما فيها " . موردا الأحاديث الدالة على كلامه والآيات المثبتة لذلك، وقد تم تحقيق الكتاب وتخريج أحاديثه زيادة في الفائدة والتثبيت
