الكتاب ترجمة لحياة الشيخ عبد العزيز الرشيد مؤرخ الكويت الأول الذي أسهمت جهوده في بناء هذا الوطن، وامتدت إلى خارجه، فتأثرت الكويت على يده بالحركة الثقافية والفكرية في العالمين العربي والإسلامي وأثرت فيها، فكان بذلك جسر التواصل والتفاعل الحي بين مجتمع الكويت وأمته العربية والإسلامية. وقد قدم الكتاب متابعة مفصلة لحياة الشيخ عبد العزيز الرشيد منذ مولده حتى وفاته، وكشف كثيرا من أعماله ونشاطاته التي لم تسجل من قبل، فتطلعنا هذه الدراسة عن سيرته الذاتية على جهوده في أندونيسيا، وسعيه للتوفيق بين الجماعات العربية المقيمة بها، وموقفه من الصراعات الدائرة بين تلك الجماعات. كما قدم الكتاب عرضا وافيا لرسائله وكتبه الدينية والتاريخية والأدبية، ومراسلاته واتصالاته برجال الفكر والعلم، والسياسة والأدب في العالمين العربي والإسلامي، وقد كتبت عنه مجلة الشورى المصرية "إن الأديب المحقق الشيخ عبد العزيز الرشيد قد ألف تاريخا كبيرا للكويت". وكذلك كانت مجلته الشهرية "الكويت التي أصدرها عام 1928م جامعة للدين والتاريخ والأخلاق، كما تحدثت عن الأدب في الأحساء وفي نجد وفي عُمان، وفي الكويت في أعدادها التي كانت تصدر تباعا على مدى عشرة أشهر في كل عام. وقد تطلب جمع المادة الغزيرة لهذا الكتاب تنقل المؤلف بين الكويت والمملكة العربية السعودية وأندونيسيا ولندن، وتعددت أسفاره إلى مواطن شتى أملا في الحصول على معلومات تتوافر هناك لدى من كانت لهم بالرشيد صلات وعلاقات، أو حتى لقاءات ومراسلات، وذلك وفقا لمنهج علمي موثق.
