إن قضية المرأة ومشكلة تحررها ليست مشكلة فردية تخص المرأة وحدها، وإنما هي قضية سياسية تخص المجتمع ككل، لأنها متعلقة بحرية الفرد، وبالحقوق المتساوية بين المواطنين، وبديمقراطية النظام، إذ لا معنى لحرية المرأة في مجتمع كله عبيد. وقضية المرأة هي قضية اقتصادية لأنها تتعلق بعدالة توزيع الثروات وخيرات البلاد، وأتاحت الفرص المتساوية لكل من المرأة، الرجل، وحق المرأة في العمل ودورها في عملية التنمية؛ وهي قضية تربوية لأنها تتعلق بطرق ومناهج التعليم، ومناهج البرامج التربوية، وكفاءة نظام التعليم لصنع أفراد سواسية يؤمنون بالديمقراطية والمساواة، ومدى قدرة هذا النظام على محو كل تربية تقوم على التميز الجنسي وتساهم في تحقير المرأة ودونيتها. وقضية المرأة هي كذلك قضية ثقافية، لأنها تتعلق بخلق عقلية جديدة تتعامل مع المرأة كإنسان لا كأداة، تعيد الاعتبار إلى فكرها الشخصي دون دونية وتحقير. من هذا المنظور الشامل لقضية المرأة يسقط وينتفي الطرح الساذج الذي يعتبر قضية المرأة مجرد عملية تحرر من العادات والتقاليد... لتصبح قضية شعب بكامله، بأفراده ونظمه ومؤسساته وقضية توجه عام، نحو التطور والحرية والديمقراطية. وفي هذا الكتاب تلتقط "حياة الرايس" رحلة جسد المرأة عبر المجتمعات القديمة والحديثة، محاولة رصد واقع المرأة في المجتمع العربي والإسلامي خاصة، داعية إلى تحرر جسد المرأة من سلطة خارج سلطته في إطار الحقيقة للمجتمع ككل. كما ورصدت الباحثة مسألة تسلط الجان على الإنس، ساردةً العديد من القصص والأساطير التي تؤكد هروب الجسد الإنسي إلى سلطة غيبية (الجان) حيث تكون هناك الحرية الموهومة التي تتحول إلى أعراض مرضية نفسية وجسمية.
