إن الناس هنا بدون عقول، ويحتاجون دائماً لمن يشدهم بيده إلى العمل، ومن يراقبهم، ويعاقبهم، هذا الشعب لا يمكن الوثوق به، إنه يخرب عمداً كل شيء، إن الجميع يحسدونه، ويقفون عقبة في طريقه، وفي الأيام الأخيرة فقد ثقته بالجميع، إنهم يخونونه ويتركونه ويغشونه، لم يعد يستطيع الإعتماد على أحد.
اليوم تراه مسجى في هذه القاعة، واثنان من مندوبي المدينة الذين أدار لهم ظهره في ذلك الوقت يقفون بين مجموعة حرس الشرف، لا بد أنه في وقت ما، عرف أنه يجرّه قلم بسيطة، قد سبب للمدينة مأساة بدلاً من السعادة، لكنه كان دائماً يجد سبب الفشل في الآخرين، هؤلاء الذين يضعون العراقيل في طريقه، ويسببون الإخفاقات التي تحدث!...
لقد أرادوا سقوطه من خلال توريطه بمشاريع فاشلة، وكانوا يقدمون له معلومات خاطئة، ويجعلونه يوقع عليها.
في النهاية أصبح يخاف من إتخاذ أي قرار، وبالمقابل نشط في حشد وتركيز سلطته، ووضع في يده كل السلطات الممكنة، ولم يكن هدفه من ذلك أن يحكم، فقد تخلى عن هذا الموضوع منذ مدة، ولكن لرغبته في البقاء، وليضاعف من إحساسه في أعماقه بالثبات والجدوى، ولكنه مع ذلك كان خائفاً، لقد كان خائفاً من شخص، وهذا الشخص لم يكن ممكناً الوصول إليه بسهولة.
