كان مرض الإيدز (متلازمة نقص المناعة المكتسبة) قد ظهر، لأول مرة، في السنة 1981 الميلادية، بالرغم من وجود بعض الظواهر التي تدل على أول ظهوره كان في السنة 1979. ولكن انتشاره السريع، وجذب أنظار المجتمع الطبي إليه، واعتباره معضلة طبية كبرى، لم يتمّ إلا في السنة 1981. ومنذ ذلك الحين، وحتى وقت قريب، لم يعرف المرض على حقيقته، ولم تعرف، على وجه التحديد، أسبابه وماهيته، سوى أنه مرض غامض يفتك بالمصابين به، حتى لا يكاد ينجو أحد منهم من الهلاك.
وهذا الكتاب جاء ليكشف للقارئ عن حقيقة هذا المرض، أسبابه وأعراضه، وآخر ما استجد في أمره وسبل العلاج منه... وكنتيجة لإحاطة الباحث بمختلف جوانب هذا الموضوع، جاءت محتويات كتابه هامة ومفصلة، لا تنحرف عن أرقى المعلومات العلمية والطبية في هذا الموضوع، كما سطرها كبار الباحثين، وأساطين العلماء، في مجال استقصاء هذا المرض، ومعرفة أسراره.
