«آلن وايتسايد» هو أستاذ اقتصاديات الصحة وڤيروس نقص المناعة البشري/الإيدز، ومدير قسم الأبحاث بجامعة كوازولو ـ ناتال في جنوب إفريقيا. وقد انخرط في بحث وباء «الإيدز» لأكثر من 20 سنة. وفي عام 2003 عينه «كوفي أنان» في اللجنة القائمة على «الإيدز» وإدارة الحكم في أفريقيا، وقد كان عضوًا منتخبًا في «الهيئة الإدارية العليا لجمعية الإيدز الدولية» منذ عام 2000.
