في هذه الرواية ينشغل الروائي "موسى رحوم عباس" بالواقع اليومي البسيط جداً لمدينة الرقة وضواحيها قبل أن تدخل الحداثة إليها. وراح يقرأ هذا الواقع من خلال مقاربة تاريخية- اجتماعية مستفيداً من تخصصه في "علم النفس السريري" على فهم الحياة الاجتماعية، وتحليل تجلياتها اللا نهائية، فيندفع مصمماً إلى عالم الرواية، ليمارس فن السرد إلى جانب علم النفس. وهكذا يتخذ الروائي من شخصية "حسينوه" وتطورها خلال مراحل عمله الأدبي وتعرضها لتيارات فكرية كثيرة في محطات متعاقبة العمل على استكشاف نقاط التقاطع بين النفسي الفردي والسياسي الأوسع نطاقاً... "عالم متداخل متشابك يا حسينوه، شرنقة تنسج حولك وأنت داخلها بينما تظن أنك تعيش خارجها، هذا دمك يجري في عروق شيخ لا يقطع فرضاً، وأنت تحمل إرثاً من القهر بدايته هنالك في أعماق البحيرة التي أغرقت عالمك وطاحونتك، ولم يبق لك إلا طاحونة الذكريات. بقي لك أبو إلياس وأم فيصل، بينما غرقت بيروت والغدائيون وبرج حمود في ذاكرتك، ربما تفكر اللحظة في أنك ما تزال مرفوعاً على (الفلقة) وترتفع العصا وتنخفض على قدميك الخشنتين.. ص 145" وهنا تبدو الكتابة فعل تغيير وممارسة وأكثر جرأة في البوح والتعبير هما يتركه هذا الواقع من تجريحات وربما من اعوجاجات في بنية الروح الإنسانية، وهذا يعني أن "موسى رحوم عباس" من الكتاب الذين أرسو "دعائم مشروع تحديثي في الكتابة بكل أبعاده ومستوياته"...
