كتبت فصول هذه الرواية على رمال الواحات قبل أن تكتب على الورق. إنها تاريخ غير مكتوب لمرحلة عاشتها إمارات ساحل الخليج العربي التي صارت ما عليه اليوم الإمارات. في ذلك الزمن كانت رحلة المقيض التقليدية السنوية مع مطلع كل صيف، إلى الواحات القريبة، مثل ليوا والعين وحماسة وضاية والذيد وصولاً إلى ساحل الفجيرة وساحل الباطنة على بحر العرب. تلك الصور التي كادت أن تضيع، تقدمها هذا الرواية، مضمخة بذكريات المشقة التي كابدها الأجداد والآباء في بيئة طاردة، كعصف ريح ليلي برمال صحراء مستسلمة؛ هوذا نبض الحنين والنخيل والإبل، وهذه هي الحبارى والغاف والكروان والعسيج، تصير في هذه الرواية موسيقى تلاعبها أوتار المحماس والآهات، ويعبق بها فوح القهوة والمروءة والوفاء، فإذا بألحان الحب تتتوج بزواج مصبح من بخيتة. ولكن من هي بخيتة؟ ولماذا باتت الطوي المهجورة على طريق القوافل تعرف بطوي بخيتة؟
