يدور الكتاب حول الفتاة مريم والتى تعانى من مرض بساقها يجعلها لا تجرى مثل بقية الأطفال لكن لديها معلمة طيبة تدعى فاطمة تشجعها على رسم أحلامها ولما اختفت المعلمة فاطمة لسفرها المفاجئ أخذت مريم ترسم أحلامها وهى تشاهد الثورة ببلادها مصر طلبا للحرية والعدالة تخيلت أنها تستطيع بأحلامها الطيران والتحليق وأنها لا تقل عن أى شخص عادى فكل طفل أو إنسان لديه احتياجات خاصة لا تفقده القدرة على الحلم وأنه بمقدوره أن يتخطى إعاقته لمساحات من الخيال أرحب وأجمل حيث نحتاج دائما إلى الأمل ويجب أن ينبع من ذواتنا نحن وننظر لدواخلنا نستطلع بواطن الموهبة التى تميزنا عن الآخرين والنور الذى يغمر القلب يساعد كثيرا على تخطى أية صعوبات. أحلام مريم حاولت فيه المؤلفة أن تخبرنا أن الإعاقة الحقيقية تكمن فى طريقة تفكيرنا ونظرتنا للأمور الاستسلام للضعف واليأس لن يحل المشكلة وإنما محاولة كسر أوهام الإعاقة بمزيد من التفكر والحلم والعمل على تحقيقه.
