كتاب فريد كالثقافة الهائلة التي يحتويها عقل الأستاذ، يحمل سيرته أثناء طفولته في مكة، لكنه لا يشبه كتب السير بطريقها المعروفة، لا تستطيع وأنت تقرأه إلا أن تتعجب لمقدار المنطق والقدرة على التحليل والغوص في عمق الثقافتين العربية والغربية للوصول إلى الفكرة وتقديمها بشكل جميل وساحر.
بين كل الكتب والكتاب الذين يستشهد بهم في كتابه يوقع على ما قال وكأنه يضع نفسه بين يديك ضمن نهر الكتابات التي حدثت على مر التاريخ، لا يميز نفسه بينهم، لا يفرض نفسه ككاتب للكتاب، هو مجرد إقتباس، مثل الآخرين الذين يقتبس منهم، هل هذا تواضع أم غرور، لا يهم، الأهم أنّه كتاب يشدك منذ إقتباسه الأول وحتى الأخير.
