هذا بحث درس فيه الدكتور "عصام نور الدين" سيرة ابن هشام الشخصية والعلمية وفق فن "عمارة السيرة" بالإضافة إلى إنتاجه ومذهبه النحوي، وذلك بهدف السماح للقارئ بتكوين فكرة صحيحة عن هذا الرجل وإنتاجه ومنهجه الذي استطاع بواسطته غربلة تراثنا النحوي، وتصفيته. ومن أجل تحقق هذا الهدف قسم الباحث دراسته على ستة فصول، ومقدمة، وخاتمة، وسبعة فهارس فنية بالإضافة إلى مسرد المصادر والمراجع وفهرس الموضوعات.
في الفصل الأول تحدث الباحث عن زمان ابن هشام وبيئته، وتكلم عن نشأته وتكوين شخصيته، ثم حركة حياته، ثم حركة تعبيره عن نفسه وعن علمه مما استدعى دراسة صفاته العلمية، واستعرض أسماء أساتذته وتلاميذه ومعاصريه من اللغويين والنحاة.. ومقارنته مع سيبويه، ومعرفة وظائفه.
وأما في الفصل الثاني: فتمت فيه دراسة كتب الرجل. وقد بدأ بكتب الفقه والعقائد والفرائض والمسائل الدينية، فالمؤلفات اللغوية والأدبية، فكتب الصرف والتصريف، فالمؤلفات النحوية.
وأما الفصل الثالث: "منهج ابن هشام في كتبه النحوية" ففيه محاولة لتسليط الأضواء على منهجه النحوي في اثني عشر كتابً نحوياً.
وأما الفصل الرابع: "منهج ابن هشام النحوي من خلال شواهده" فقد أشار إلى موقفه من النصوص القرآنية، والقرارات القرآنية، والحديث النبوي الشريف، وموقفه من الشواهد الشعرية والنثرية.
وأما الفصل الخامس: "موقف ابن هشام من المدارس النحوية ونحاتها" ففيه مقارنات أو إشارات إلى موقفه من تسعة عشر نحوياً.. وكذلك موقفه من المدارس النحوية.
وأما الفصل السادس: "منهج ابن هشام التأليفي في نحو الفعل" فقد سلط الضوء على الكيفية التي عالج فيها ابن هشام ثلث النحو العربي في مؤلفاته.
