يتناول الكتاب موضوع شخصية البغي في الأدب التقدمي حيث أن الشعور بالحرية وانتصار الجنس على التقاليد في العصر الحديث فتح الباب للمثاليين الشاميين ليعبروا عن أنفسهم بطريقة أكثر مباشرة حتى احتلت شخصية البغي حيزاً مهماً من الأعمال الخلاقة للفنانين المحدثين كأحسن وسيلة للتعبير عن النفس. ولكن البغي ظل بالنسبة للاشتراكيين حصيل الشرور التي جاءت بها وضاعفتها الرأسمالية حيث مثلت هذه المسألة استعباد الرجل للمرأة على ضوء هذه المعطيات يحاول المؤلف دراسة هذا الموضوع ودراسة معمقة بالاستناد إلى الأعمال الأدبية المناسبة.
